Recently, 19-year-old Danny Stewart was arrested because his car ran out of gas. The catch? Stewart, along with three accomplices, had just burglarized a home and he was the getaway driver.

The group stole $10,450 worth of valuables including computers and game systems from the home. They also caused $1,500 in damage after smashing a patio door and slicing through furniture with a knife.

During the getaway Stewart had to make a pit-stop at a nearby gas station to refill his tank. Station employees became suspicious, noting that he was out of breath and looked like he had been running. Later when news of the burglary was broadcast, the employees realized Stewart might have been involved and tipped off police.

Earlier, a witness also spotted the group loading valuables into Stewart’s car and wrote down his registration number. To top it off, Stewart had also been caught on a security camera. The police had numerous clues that pointed to the teen, which ultimately led to his arrest.

Stewart has denied his involvement in the crime but was found guilty after a 3-day trial. This story just goes to show you, crime doesn’t pay. Many homes have wireless security systems and cameras installed to prevent such thievery.
