Ohio State Students Find Dead Burglar Inside Apartment
September 08, 2011
Two Ohio State students returned home from their Labor Day weekend to find the body of 49-year-old Darin Moore sprawled on the floor of their apartment. Police reports indicate that Moore severed an artery and bled to death after breaking a window to enter the apartment. The botched burglary left the students shaken. Having just moved into their off-campus apartment last week, they are undecided if they are going to stay.
In Columbus, Ohio home security is a rising concern. This isn’t the first time an off-campus apartment has been burglarized and having a wireless alarm system is one way to thwart unwanted house guests. Many renters like this option because when it comes time to move, the system can move too. There are no messy wires or installation technicians to deal with.
While having a security system isn’t always the first thought to cross a college student’s mind (with all of that studying going on) perhaps this incident will remind them to be more cautious. Simple steps like keeping valuables out of sight and installing proper lighting can help prevent a break-in.
