Residents of Evesham Township, NJ are on guard after a recent string of burglaries in the tri-county area. In the past 6 months there have been over 41 burglaries, with a majority occurring during the day.  As a suburb of Philadelphia, Marlton does not usually have a problem with crime. Statistically speaking, the town is well below the national average. Unfortunately, burglars can strike anywhere.

These thieves are accessing homes in broad daylight through first floor windows or the garage. Once inside they rummage through every room looking for cash, jewelry and small valuables.

The burglaries have residents taking extra precautions.  Many are taking the time to lock all doors and windows, turn on their lights and leave the TV on when they leave. Here are some additional home security tips to keep in mind:

  • Security lighting: Motion sensor lights will turn on at night when movement is detected. Proper lighting is an effective burglary deterrent.
  • Keep landscaping trimmed: Overgrown trees and shrubs that hide doors and windows can give a burglar the cover they need to break in without being seen.
  • Replace door locks and weak exterior doors: You can do this yourself or ask a locksmith to help, but make sure you have 3-inch screws in the strike plates of your locks. This combined with a strong wood or steel door will make your entry points very secure.
  • Install a reliable home security system: LifeShield Home Security provides burglary and fire monitoring that will keep your home and family safe in case of an emergency. Be sure to display the yard sign and window decals so burglars will know your home is protected by an alarm system.

The best way to keep your home safe is to take the right precautions in the first place. If you put obstacles in a burglar’s way, they will likely move on to an easier target. This can make all of the difference when it comes to your home’s security.
