Five Bizarre Home Burglary Disguises
November 30, 2011
As a home security company, we’ve read our fair share of interesting criminal stories. It seems some burglars are getting more creative with their disguises these days in hopes of avoiding law enforcement. Unfortunately for them, not all disguises are as clever as they thought. Here’s a list of five of the most bizarre burglary disguises:
- Gumby In Green – in September Jacob Kiss, 19, and his accomplice, Jason Giramma, tried to rob a 7-11 in San Diego, CA. During the attempted robbery Kiss entered the convenience store dressed as Gumby and the clerk says he claimed to have a gun. The incident was captured on a security system camera. This week both Kiss and Giramma plead guilty to misdemeanor burglary and were placed on three years of probation.
- Wait, he’s a she? – Maricela Aguilera Rodriguez was sentenced to 30 years in prison for using a deadly weapon during a home burglary. Disguised as a male, Rodriguez went to a Texas home and confronted a mother and her three children. Rodriguez demanded the mother tie and gag the children before proceeding to bind the mother. While ransacking the home, Rodriguez forced the victims into a bedroom, where one of them was able to escape and call police. When they arrived they learned the suspect was in fact a female, not a male as the victim described.
- Duct-tape Dumby – A liquor store owner in Kentucky could not believe his eyes when Kasey Kazee walked into his store. This burglar had wrapped his entire head in duct tape before the attempted robbery as a disguise. The staff at the liquor store was able to hold Kazee until police arrived. Luckily for the thief, he was sweating enough the duct tape did not fully stick to his skin and hair.
- Magic Marker Duo- Two Iowa burglars picked a not so magic disguise. Before an attempted home break-in, the pair, who could not find ski masks, drew all over their faces with black magic marker. Wearing their improvised disguises they proceeded with the burglary. Unfortunately, not only did the homeowner catch them and call police, but when they were caught there was no hiding their guilt. One of the bandits was charged with drunk driving and both were charged with attempted burglary.
- Tree-branch Bandit – In a rather strange bank robbery, James Coldwell duct-taped tree branches to his head and torso in hopes of hiding his identity. He walked into a New Hampshire bank and demanded money wearing this clever disguise. He was later identified and arrested using footage from the bank’s wireless security cameras.
