Burglar Too Connected in Botched Burglary

When a New Mexico family returned home from dinner one evening they were greeted by two men burglarizing their home. Startled, one of the burglars, Oscar Martinez, fired six shots at the family with a BB gun. The two men then ran out into the backyard to escape. While running Martinez’s cell phone fell to the ground where it was later discovered by police. Unfortunately for him, not only did police have his cell phone but they also had access to his Facebook account.

It didn’t take long for investigators to identify Martinez. He even had his full date of birth listed on his account. As it turns out he was on parole. Police issued a warrant for his arrest and Martinez is facing charges of aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, child abuse and violating his parole. Luckily for this family, investigators were given a substantial lead in this case. Police can only hope more criminals will be this careless.

Burglars, like Martinez, look for homes that are easy targets. These homes are often unoccupied with tall fences, overgrown shrubbery, poor lighting, unsecured locks, and no home security system. Since a majority of burglars gain access to your home through the front or back door it’s important to have proper locks installed. For sliding doors place a piece of wood or metal in the track to prevent a forced entry. Also, keep your windows shut and locked even if you’re only running out for an hour. While you’re gone a burglar can be in and out of your home in a matter of minutes.

One of the best ways to ensure your home and family’s protection is a wireless alarm system. This type of security is superior to the traditional hard-wired system because it is cost-efficient, easy to install and portable if you ever need to move. Not to mention, LifeShield even offers free web and mobile apps for your smart phone, tablet or PC that will allow you to monitor your home while you’re away. With access anywhere in the world you’ll always know if your home is safe and secure.
