Burglar Alarm

Burglar Alarm [bur-gler] [uh-lahrm]: the system designed to detect the presence of an intruder. Various sensors are used to do this: door, window, motion, and glass break. When a sensor is tripped your alarm system will sound and communicate the intrusion to you and the monitoring center.

Door and window sensors are also known as open close sensors and are best used in areas that are high-risk for forced entry. These areas are any entry point on the first floor including all doors and windows. For complete coverage, they should also be placed on second floor windows. Sensors are tripped if someone opens a monitored door or window while the system is armed. If this occurs, your burglar alarm will sound.

The same applies using the motion or glass break sensors. If a burglar enters through an unmonitored door or window, a motion sensor will detect their movement and sound your alarm. These are best used in larger areas like basements, attics, garages, patios, and large family rooms. Likewise, a glass break sensor is the perfect solution for bay windows, sliding glass doors, etc. The sensor will trip when it “hears” the sound of shattering glass. Burglars often use this technique to unlock a door or window.
